how can i get the footage from my old hi8 tapes to my laptop. The sony handycam only has a AV lead with the yellow, red and black plugs.

please can anyone advise. Thanks. SD

Plug the leads into a DVD recorder (liked to a TV), and copy the tapes to DVD.

Then put the DVD in the laptop and copy the contents onto the computer.

You could always get a Dazzle DVC 100 capture card (these can be picked up quite cheaply on eBay). These devices have the corresponding sockets for your yellow, red and black plugs (RCA plugs) and a USB connector to hook up to your PC/laptop. They come supplied with the necessary software for transferring video/camcorder tapes.
