Simple Video Edit

hi i have a short film on my sony camera that i would like to edit 8 seconds off of the beginning. I have windows - is there some simple programme that i would already have, or wouldn't have to download to crop the first 8 seconds off? I tried doing it in movie maker, but then it wouldn't play

Windows Movie Maker should do it.

What format is the footage, is it compatible with WMM, I use WMM with great success, I would work on WMM and resolve the problem. I think that will be the easiest option if you can do it.
