How do i find out what to buy? i have an AMD athlon processor.
Also is there anything you can do to sort this overheating in hot weather problem. It's ok today but yesterday my pc was unusuable. just kept bsoding. I'm sure I do actually need more memory too though. I do seem to expect alot from my pc and it often crashes (even when not hot) when I use music match or photoshop. Amazingly enough it's been fine with google earth.

RAM needs to be compatible with the Motherboard. If you have a manual this should recommend types of memory. If all else fails open up the machine and look for an MB model no. or likewise for any memory already installed.

Overheating is counteracted by fans & heatsinks and ensuring an adequate airflow.

With regard to CPU overheating. Have you got Nero installed, by any chance? If so, check your CPU usage. My CPU was running at 100% until I discovered I had an issue with Nero. I've since encountered other users with the same problem. Check your CPU usage anyway. Excessive usage will cause overheating and crashing. Mine normally runs between 1% and 15%
also one quick fix would be take the side off your pc temporarily
Removing the side of the PC case doesn't increase airflow around the CPU or other critical components, but if you also have a domestic fan blowing air in through the side... that would.
i had this problem, AMDs are notorious for it. solution: new , spacious pc tower and 3 internal fans. spaced out the cr-rom drives too. works like a champ and has done since then (over 18 months ago)
