I currently connect to the internet through AOL, trouble is AOL's media player will not allow me to view streaming video or audio. I keep getting the following error message "site down or busy". I don't beleive this is the case as no matter what site I try, I keep getting the same message.

You can always bypass AOL's browser, using netscape or IE. At one time, AOL had a special version of Netscape to use. (I don't know about now) Check the help section of AOL and they will tell you how to use an alternate browser and then you can get rid of all sorts of AOL's quirks on the browsers.
