Mobile Phone Charging

I like many millions of people use a mobile "smartphone" which just about lasts one full day on one charge up, I then plug it in and leave it on charge all night whilst asleep ready for use the next day, some of the people I have talked to are horrified by this and tell me the phone should be removed from charging as soon as it is full however others have told me that with modern batteries and chargers it doesn't matter as it is recognised when the phone is full and automatically stops, who is right?

You are - there is (possibly) a tiny amount of electricity still being used by the charger, but the phone and battery will be fine.

It is perhaps worth running the battery right down to 'empty' about once a month, but even this is less important than it used to be.

Thanks both for your answers, I guess my battery never gets to empty so I shall just carry on as I have been but it has put my mind at rest that it is ok to leave on charge until the next morning without doing any damage.

I've never noted any problem. I think folk are overly concerned, and possibly reacting to older advice.
