Corupt Data On Sd Card

I turned my phone on the other day (S3) and it said my SD card was corrupt?
I put it in my PC and it says it needs formatting.
I down loaded a programme that checked the SD card and all my files are still there, but cant afford to pay the money they then asked for to recover these files.
I have thousands of photos on this disk that can’t be replaced.
Does anybody know how to retrieve these files FOR FREE?
Not a free download but a freeware programme or such.
