Does anyone using Sky notice a huge difference in volume levels between channels?

For example, on BBC1 I have to have it up in the 30's. if I then turn to Dave it's ear bustlingly loud and needs to be turned down to 10 or 12.

This never happened when I just had freeview.

I do, Evian. Especially if I switch between the HD channels and the normal channels (Dave to Dave Ja Vu). Not to the extreme you do though.
We've just upgraded our BT so we can receive BT Sport - what used to be 18-19 is now very much higher numbers.

Now you mention it Stephen the Dave channel is HD while I just normally go for bbc on 101, which isn't. Maybe it's that.
I don't have HD but do have the sound problem on different channels. I thought it was maybe programmes being made using different sound levels.
I've taken to using BBC 1 & 2 in HD and keeping the volume down on the TV.

Seems it might be worth using the favourite channel function so I can preset them all to HD (when possible) and see if it helps keep it more level. Thanks, I hadn't even considers that as a possibility.
I have Freeview with a couple of HD channels and those are always much louder.

It's probably because the HD channels have surround sound audio and the TV or audio system decodes it differently.
Why can't these expensive, modern tvs have sound equalisers (is that the word? balancers? moderators?) so the sound is the same across all channels? It's annoying

Maybe Billy, expect in my example the HD channel is quieter.

HC, you'd think it was easily achievable wouldn't you. Just have to make sure the volume is down before I switch channels now to avoid blasting the entire county.
I have the same problem evian my volume levels range from 25-35 and yes it is bloody annoying...just thought it was my telly.glad I am not alone.
Perhaps HD stands for Highly Deafening
