got a suspicious email today. is there any way i can get an IP address from the sender or get name of who sent it ? also how do i get the name of someone who has given me a threatening phone call apart from going to police.
Is there a reason why you feel you need the IP address, beezaneez. Depending on the nature of the suspicious email there are various addresses to which you can forward these.
As to the latter query, you can google the number or ring it on some pretext and see if you can get some info out of them, but if it's threatening you can try the police- although they may want to wait see whether it was just a one-off
I think you can see the IP address by looking at the headers if you know how to see these, but I wouldn't be surprised if some spammers and the like know how to disguise their true IP address- and I understand some users have dynamic IP addresses
It could depend on which system you use for E-mails.
With Outlook Express you can Right Click the e-mail header, select Properties, then Details, then Message Source to get the IP address route as often, quite a few addresses are used to forward the e-mail to you.
Also, www.ipaddresslocation.org can be useful in locating such information.
