Blocking On Facebook
13 Answers
Here's a weird one.
My daughter has posted a video on her FB page for me to see. I can't see it on her page nor can I see it on an instant message or the news feed. One of my other daughters can see it on her sister's page. It's a video of my daughter competing at a sports event that was taken by her father, my ex.
Could it be that, if he's blocked me (although we have never tried to 'friend' each other) that his post to my daughter cannot be displayed to me?
Have looked on the FB help page but it doesn't answer this.
Can you lovely people explain?

It's eating at me though. It seems really petty both for him to block me from it and me to be so upset about it

If he posted it and you're not friends with him, you probably won't be able to see it. His security settings may be set so that only his friends can see what he posts. If he posted so that "friends of friends" can see it, your daughter should be able to add a comment to his post or "share" it, and you may then be able to see it on your newsfeed.
You can limit who can see what for specific things too so, say, if I wanted to post something I only wanted certain people to see then I could do that.
For example, if I posted anything which involved something like reading 50 Shades of Grey I can prevent my younger cousins from seeing it on a post by post basis.
He could also have restricted it to "friends" only. I know there are photos that I'm tagged in that nobody other than friends of the person who posted the photo can see.
If someone is blocked they cannot see anything someone else has posted including comments.

Coo, this is complicated.
So, I reckon the outcome is that he has got 'friends only' set and that explains why I can see his comments on hers but not the video, which he did not post directly on her page, so she can't share it with me.
I've also learned that if you want to hide stuff from 'friends of friends' you can do it on a post to post basis, thanks Eve.
