Windows 8

What a nightmare! My laptop gave up last week so a new one is purchased..as you do.

I don't like the system as I did Vista which was my last processor.

I have no idea how to connect to my BT emails as apart from truly not knowing what I am meant to do I don't understand why I haven't got a tool bar with Tools written on it to follow the instructions.

If that is double dutch to you, it is to me too.

Can anyone help an old gal out who feels like a right twit when others know so much more about these gadgets...please x

Windows 8 is a bit of a shock when you first see it but it isn't really any different to Vista or 7 when you get to know it, only much more efficient.
Can you be more specific as to what you want to do.

Start8 is the most popular download with Windows 8 users. Why? Because it makes Windows 8 look like Windows 7 (which ex-Vista users will find comfortingly similar). It costs $4.99 (£3.17) but it's probably well worth it (and there's a free trial available if you want to try it out first):

However that won't change the email client (Windows 8 Mail) which comes with Windows 8. That client can't be used with BT Yahoo! Mail. That's confirmed here by BT:

I suggest using the links provided on that page to first download (and then install) Thunderbird and then setting up your BT Yahoo! account with it. (Alternatively, simply use the web interface, here: http://www.bt.yahoo.com/mail )

There would be no need to anyway because they simply leave Windows 8 unchanged but provide an 'overlay' to change its appearance. (Anyway, I turned off all Microsoft updates years ago and nothing nasty has happened yet!)

In October Microsoft are releasing Windows 8.1, a free update to Windows 8.

While I have not used it yet, I understand it "fixes" some of the problems with Windows 8.

Suggest you wait for that before rejecting Windows 8 (though like you, I don't like Windows 8).

I've had Windows 8 for about 6 months and I still hate it. "charms" appearing to the right whilst I'm typing. flicking between one window and another. I can't find all my photos but I know they're in here somewhere!

If you were using Windows Live Mail previously then in order to use it in Windows 8 you have to enable Net Framework 3.5 in the Windows Settings and then install Windows Live Mail which accepts POP3 . Open Control Panel go to Programs and Features then to Turn Windows Features On or Off then scroll down and tick Net Framework 3.5 then ok.
