Would anyone know if a memory card from a security camera could pass a virus to a hard drive on a PC?

I'm asking as my laptop failed immediately after I had inserted a card. Was working perfectly to that point.

Just an idle thought. I got a new laptop so its not a problem, other than the horrid Windows 8.
Is it the first time you've used the card reader on the laptop?
cupotee....Are you telling us that you have bought a new laptop which has that dreaded W8, before asking your question in Answerbank.?

Anyway, come October 18th you will be offered a free download from Microsoft to convert W8 to W8.1 which I think is intended to make the operating system more suitable to folk who were accustomed to W7.

It depends if the memory card has been put into another infected machine first.
As to Windows 8, buy a mouse, it makes it much easier to control.

methyl,

" failed" when it would appear to be starting up, then lots of whirring noises for ages then nothing, just the light to know the power was on and the blue light that it was connected to the internet.

WhyDyed I am suspecting that may be the case.
