Just had a phone call from an Indian(?) gentleman telling me that my computer was shut down during an install and that it now has problems that I wasn't aware of. He asked me turn on my computer and he would help me fix it. I told him I had no time for this and also told him that I hadn't shut down computer incorrectly and hung up on him. Wasn't going to fall for that one!

You should have transferred the call to me! I absolutely love giving them the run around. Haven't had a call from these type of people for a long time, I suspect they have my number marked as 'expletive deleted'. Correct response from you. ☺☺☺

You were a step ahead of him. I'm glad you were. The shame is that some people will be fooled by this call and find that their pc has been remotely hacked. The really clever ones will have your bank details in a few minutes and will have a ball at your expense. Ever the the comedy show 'Fonejacker'? it works on the same scam as one of his sketches! Except it's not as funny!
i pretend its running through a checkdisk - which can take a while and keep them hanging on, i say stuff like 'ooh yeah it is running dead slow, must be because of what you say, its still running the check and i cant stop it'
they usually wait, though sometimes they say they will call back in a minute
one called me a prostitute once when i came clean what i was doing - wahahahaa!
i laughed my head off down the phone at him.
