Why is it that when I try to install a free app on my ipad it goes to payment details? Thanks

have you set up payment details? It won't let you buy anything till you do. If you never ever purchase apps but only download free ones, there is an option to have no payment method connected to your account but you still need to set it up.

so what exactly happens when you try to download the app?

The price should show as £0.00 but the free app will then show in your purchase history should you ever need to download it again. It may not be free later on.

does it ask you to confirm payment details? it wants you to put in your security number (last 3 figures on the back) then its should stop asking
