The USB connection with the speakers is solely to provide a power source. The jack plug from the speakers needs to be inserted into the relevant socket on the PC.

If you're getting no sound, and you're confident that it's not been muted, have you checked (in the Device Manager) that there's no warning triangle next to the sound driver?

Otherwise, start here:

thanks buenchico had already seen tht link its windows 7 i have installed and everything is hooked up correctly
OK.

Get hold of some cheap earphones (e.g. for a quid in Poundland). Plug them in to the 'speaker' socket. Find any sound file on your computer's hard drive, such as the sound of Windows loading. (To do that, run a search for *.wav, which will find all files in the WAV format). Double-click on it to get it to play in Windows Media Player (or whatever else your default media player is). If you hear the sound through your earphones, there's a fault with the speakers. If you don't there's either a fault with the sound card (or onboard sound) or with a driver.

That might not solve your problem but at least it will tell you where to start looking for a solution. (NB: If you try that experiment, please don't try to use sounds from a CD or from, say, Youtube. That could introduce possible problems with your optical drive, with your web browser or with Adobe Flash. It's important that you should access sound files directly from your hard drive).

ok nothing again must b soundcard or driver. what do i do next?
Try reinstalling the sound driver. If you've not got it on a disk, you should be able to find it here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ProductList.jsp?taskId=135&cc=us&lang=en&prodSeriesId=3211286&;prodTypeId=12454

NB:
After downloading the file, don't forget that you need to run it to install the driver. (Save it to somewhere convenient on your hard drive and then double-click on it to run the installation program). Also remember to RESTART your computer after installing the driver.
