a friend has just sent me his new email address by text, it seems to contain 2 uppercase letters ie: FBloggsplumber@whatever.com can this be correct as I thought all email addresses were lowercase.
Hardly any email service or ISP enforces case sensitive email addresses. I tested my email address with the first 3 letters in upper case and had no problem receiving.
Thanks jomett, I have to say I have never heard of email addresses with uppercase in them but as they say "you learn something every day" so uppercase letters it is then.
Hi folk.....I Did Not know that E/mail addresses are Not case sensitive.
Interesting, I have just tested mine and put the first 2 letters of my address in upper case along with a further 2.....@BTinternet.com. No probs, it works.
However the operating systems that the early mail severs ran on before the standard were case sensitive. A single case was slightly simpler to implement and lowercase briefly became a defacto standard.
That impression persisted.
Moreover, would you want your mail address exactly the same as someone else's except for one capital letter?
Also ... Gmail ignores all 'dots' in gmail addresses - so you can give out your address as joe.bloggs.furniture@gmail.com but mail will be delivered correctly even if addressed to joebloggs.furniture@gmail.com or joebloggsfurniture@gmail.com or j.o.e.bloggs.furniture@gmail.com etc etc
