Can anyone please suggest where to buy a "reasonably"priced one of the above.I would like it to have easily understood controls (for an old codger),not too cheap but I don't want it to make the coffee either.Thanks.

" Which " can give you an idea of whats available and lists features and prices so that you can compare. You can find Which in the reference department of a library or if you go online there has very recently been an offer where you can join Which for a month for£1. I did this just before Christmas when I had to buy a washing machine in a hurry. But don't forget to cancel if you don't want to continue. If this is any help to you I have a Panasonic DDR - HW220 which is excellent.

Thanks Rosie
I have an Hitachi and found it excellent. If it broke I would buy another. Approximately £140-150 records 2 programmes at once and very important simple to install and use. Hope this helps you
If you're talking "new"...then I doubt if you will do better than Richer Sounds..."Which?" Recommended Retailer, too.

Or you may prefer a PVR...also available at Richers.
I say buy a Humax You View box. So easy to use and to record series. HD too.
Easy to use and set up. If not near your router you can use your mains supply and Powerline plugs for the connection to broadband for catch up TV.

John Lewis will sell and advise plus 2 yr warranty.

Thanks again everyone, some good suggestions to mull over.
I get my TV via free to air satellite channels. My decoder has a faclity for recording programmes on a HD drive via a USB lead(in fact I use my laptop backup drive)., I haven't had to buy anything extra.
I have a Sony which has a hard drive from which I can copy recorded programmes onto a DVD disk.

But someone told me recently that this is now illegal and one cannot buy such equipment any longer, is the true?
