Hi - can anyone tell me please if it is possible to do a search for a photo if I have forgotten which folder I have put it in - but I do know the date. I have hundreds of folders and some of them incorporate more than one subject. I am trying Start (bottom left) then Search, Files or Folders which brings me to Windows Search. Many thanks!

One way is to use Picasa http://picasa.google.com/ which will search for all images - you can specify specific folders if you don't like the default setting - and you can then simply scroll through the display of all the images that it has found.

Was the date part of the title? If so, then type *.jpg 'date' (without the ' ' marks) into the Search box.

Did you get your sound to work, you got a couple of replies on that thread?

No Alice, the date wasn't part of the title - I only know the date from my diary of when the photo was taken. If I hover the mouse over any pic in my photo folders it shows the date so presumably that is recorded in the computer memory somewhere. I wondered if there was somewhere I could search for all photos taken for example on 12 February 2010 etc.

My brother somehow got the sound drivers restored on videos to a certain extent, its still a bit jerky but not as bad thanks. None of the kind AB suggestions worked. I do love all the advice given though, and am very grateful to those who are far more techy minded than me.
Sledge hammer to crack a nut and it will take a long time BUT:

On the drive the photos are on, in the search box type *.jpg. It will list all your photos - a very long list. If you display the results listed by details you can then re-order them by "date taken". Somewhere in the middle of the list will be the date you're looking for.

I've just experimented trying to find one of mine and this worked.
Type the date in the search box eg 12/02/2010. Some photos details will appear. Click on see more results and all the photos taken that day will appear with a very small thumbnail.
You should be able to find it there. Good luck.
Good tip Yorky (high praise from a Lancastrian) - much better than my idea.

Gosh Yorky Lass that is brilliant thanks! I had already tried bibblebub's idea of using Picasa as I already had it set up on my computer but not used it for a few years. It took ages to update but then it listed all the files in years order so I did find the photo. But your idea finds the actual day so that is much better, I will always remember that now, thanks Yorky x
Pleased to help.
