Have a Thomson recon box that has a hard drive, that seems to be running when on standby continuously Is there something in the setup I've left out or is it still faulty

What do you mean by still running when on stand by?

Our old box used to making a whiring sound during the night, I presume it was from downloads by Sky.

That's it Rocky the first thing you notice in the morning is the disc running I didn't know they needed updating like pc's ,ah well perhaps it is ok

They do make a bloody racket don't they, Sky rang us a couple of weeks ago asking if we wanted a new box as the old one wasn't downloading properly, all they charged us was a few quid postage. It's great, it's got the built in wifi so we can download upstairs as well as downstairs now :)
