I've tried it in Chrome and Firefox. I agree - its barely usable.
I been getting similar problem with AB except mine keeps freezing and sometimes getting message Firefox using too much memory when I only have one page of AB on and nothing else.
I got the "try later" message yesterday. Ok today though. (Firefox)
Are you saying you get the message "internet Explorer not responding" even when you are using Chrome rather than IE?
IE must be starting automatically. Have a look at your task manager.
I am using Chome and have no problems,
If you have firefox or chrome open for extended periods of time, they use increasing amounts of memory (if you google "firefox memory leak" you'll see it's a fairly well accepted problem with the browser).

My suggested course of action would be to close firefox, make a cup of tea, select some biscuits, come back to your computer, open firefox, go to AB and enjoy it with a cup of tea and a biscuit or two.

Done that still no good !
I'm using Chrome, have the pc running all day and no problem at all.

Have you checked your task manager to see if anything is hogging the memory?
Try uninstalling chrome...installing again and set as default browser ??
