Why when receiving and forwarding emails carrying pictures do they arrive bearing outlines of same with small red crosses in corners but no pictures.??

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.If you have installed Service Pack 2 for XP then the default is to turn off the display of images from external sources. This is so that spam emails don't pick up the images from the spammers' servers, thereby identifying yours as a legitimate email address to send more spam to. If you open one of these emails you should get a message above the main text window saying "Some pictures have been blocked to help prevent the sender from identifying your computer."
To enable it (not advisable): Tools > Options > Security - untick the box "Block images and other external content in HTML email".
