If a number of threats are detected is there a way to select 'all' to be removed?

If there is I can't see it.

I'm on my sons PC and it has 2,100 threats!!!

Malwarebytes says 2100 threats ! What type ?

I don't know the answer to your question but I'd suggest, if there are tick boxes, to select the top one, the hold down the shift and select the bottom one.

Are they not groups for select al though or am I thinking of something else ?

I had the same thought last time I used it. Vaguely remember..... possible, click something like "view log" and that had an select all option. I only think. I can hardly remember what I had for breakfast so I will probably be wrong!

Left-click the first item in the list to highlight it. Then right-click on it and select 'Check all items'.

Malwarebytes and control panel are playing up. When I try to 'remove' selected or 'uninstall' it stops responding.

I am not trying to do them at the same time...

Does the AV programme on the computer find these too ? Maybe let it deal with the bulk first ? Otherwise you are stuck trying to remove 2100 in small groups :-(

Sure it freezes and doesn't just take ages ?

best way of removing progs is to download (free) revo uninstaller it gets rid of all the left behind crap.then you could reinstall a fresh version of malwarebytes

If you look under Settings>Scanner Settings there is the option to select Show in results list and check for removal for both PUP & PUM, This will then automatically tick them for removal when you click Show Results

maybe he needs a better antivirus system or firewall? It's not just a matter of scanning more often - I only do it once a month or so on my PC and it's rare I get any threats at all showing up. 2100 is awesome, but it sounds like something isn't doing its job if that many are getting through.

Other people on this thread should be able to give better advice.

I scan my PC when I get round to it, that might only be twice a year. Because I never install anything i'm not sure about and never visit 'dodgy' sites then I usually only ever have tracking cookies to delete. I use MSE and Windows firewall.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say ivor. There is no harm in advocating safe internet browsing and avoiding installing unknown software.
If you (or anyone) choose to do otherwise and your computer gets infected then you only have yourself to blame eh?

I managed to uninstall things. He had two different virus protectors, various toolbar thingys, PC performance and clean up stuff. Did another scan and only 175 detected which I removed using Chris's advice.

maybe having two AV protectors was the problem, they can sometimes trip over each other and not work properly. One should be enough (Avast, AVG, MSE, whatever works best; they're all free).

I've left MSE.

I don't know what he's doing or watching for all this rubbish to download. The PC is in the living room so it's unlikely that it's anything too dodgy.

Fairly innocent installs can come complete with undesired stuff sneaked in too, these days.
