Tracing The Owner Of A Blackberry

I found a Blackberry in the middle of the road earlier today. I tried to turn it on with a view to seeing if there was any form of owner identification but I just got an "Enter Password" screen.

(I have identified the model from the IMEI number under the battery but that is as far as I have been able to get.)

I decided that my best course of action would be to take it to the local Police Station but when I got there it was closed for Bank Holiday!

I intend taking it to the police station tomorrrow - unless any of you technical whizz kids can offer any other words of advice.

Any ideas?

Should you phone the police and tell them you'll be bringing it in, in case the owner has a tracking app and arrives at your door claiming you've nicked it?
Would the sim card work in another phone - you might then find a home/mum/dad number listed - assuming the addresses are stored on the sim.

You could then phone them and reunite the phone with its owner.
You'd still need a password to log into the SIM.....
Perhaps the owner had an epiphany... realised how utterly rubbish Blackberrys are and deliberately threw it away.

Thank you for all your comments.
Sandy: Good point! I have reported it to the police and will hand it in tomorrow when they are open for business.
Tuvok: Tried that and also tried reading the sim in my card copier but no joy. However, (Boxy) there was no request for a password. It just didn't respond.

Update:
Just as I was about to go to the Police Station, it rang and I assumed that the owner had eventually had the presence of mind to ring his own number. Not a bit of it! It was a friend of his and when I explained how I had come by the phone he gave me the owner's details.
Owner and Blackberry were quickly reunited.
All's well that end's well - as someone once said.
So you didn't need password to answer it?

No Tuvok, interestingly I didn't.
When it rang a number was displayed, I pressed the Green button (except it wasn't green, but you know what I mean!), had the conversation and at the end it went back to the locked / password screen.
