I have BT Broadband. Lately, I have noticed it is very slow. I have done an online speed check and discover (via the uSwitch checker) that my downland speed is 0.2mbs and upload 0.6mbs. I am less than half a mile from my phone exchange. Am I being ripped off?
If those figures have been presented the right way round, there's something very odd going on anyway!
The 'A' in 'ADSL' stands for 'Asymmetric', which means that your connection to the internet is deliberately configured to ensure that the download speed is significantly greater than the upload one. (I generally get around 10Mbps download and 1Mbps upload).
Irrespective of whether you've got a really good connection (because you're next to the exchange) or a lousy one (because you're as far away as it's possible to provide a broadband service) the download speed should always be far bigger than the upload speed. So there seems to be a line fault which needs to be rectified.
Ring up BT and tell them that they are not providing the Broadband speed you require.
When you ring them they will test the line themselves.
Do not pay for what you are not getting
Before contacting BT I would suggest that you test your Broadband speeds with BT's official line tester. It stands to reason that BT may Not accept what you have from the uSwitch checker. If possible you should check from your BT 'in-box' which is the first telephone socket inside your property. :-

nor do i, redman. i have just spent an hour on bt chat with an adviser and the anbswer they say could be that the telephone line is to blame. i was just getting into this, having been transferred to the telephony mob, when the connection broke down and then they said this might be because of the broadband problem. holy cow, these people are unbelievable. why did i ever switch from plusnet.
Have you used the speed test from your ISP BT to check your speed ? The best way is to phone them and whilst on the phone do a speed test and have them verify it. If it is slow then ask them to run a check with you there an then and ask them to test your connection and fix it if required.
