Are There Any True Pay As You Go Deals Left?

Just been looking into a payg sim card - just to put in a phone and leave it for emergencies

but all the ones i can find, say they are payg, but actually you have to pay each month, and it does that automatically! = and what you pay runs out each month too - so basically they are kind of contracts!

I remember the days when you could put £10 on a handset and it was there until you used it up

does this not exist anymore?

Yes...Tesco. They triple your credit when you top up and it stays there until you use it.

I have a payg sim with Virgin mobile. They take payment by direct debit each month but you don't have to use a certain amount. I've often had zero to pay. Plus you don't have to buy top-ups, you just use it then pay later.

You are describing a SIM only contract, not PAYG. Most networks (if not all) do PAYG, I have one daughter on Orange and one on Vodafone, both pay as you go.

I have PAYG on EE (used to be Orange). I put twenty quid on it about every nine to twelve months or so (Last time was last October and I still have over a tenner left). Works a treat.

I'm surprised any force you to pay each month. Give you the option to in order to retain some monthly inclusive whatever maybe, but not force you to. and they all will not yet credit just sit there.

I think it is correct to say they all need some proof the number/account is still live, and not just wasted resource; so require a paid for activity within a certain period or else they hibernate the number for a while, and then reuse it.

I have a spare 'phone on PAYG with Orange, I put £10 on it in January, there's £7 left, no hassle!

Yes, I have O2 PAYG which does exactly that. I started it as an emergency phone for the car and it goes from month to month without being used.

methyl...... that happened to us when we left a phone in the car. It was cut off and we lost the credit. We have to make or receive a call every so often to keep it active We are with o2.

Tesco Mobile Sim Only. Open a PAYG account with £10 & providing you make one call every 6 months (To prove 'phone is still active ) never pay any more in.
