my friend helped me purchase my laptop, i am sure i have a wireless set up, how do I check and then get it working?? also i have a printer/scanner, how can I change this to wireless,its so frustrating just not knowing this stuff, anyone know any good websites to find out more info about all this in simple terms!!!

To use wireless you will need a wireless network .

This will basically be a wireless router with a built in modem that connects to your internet connection. Your laptop and printer can then connect to the router, either wirelessly or via a network cable.

The printer won't generally have a wirless connection so you will need to use a network cable.

As for the Scanner that won't work wirelessly it still needs to be connected to the laptop directly.
