I keep getting pop-ups I've used adblock plus, but its still not working,i would appreciate, any help but please make it easy no technical terms I'm a technophobe

Have you tried "adguard" instead of adblock.
Works for me :-)
If you "google" adguard I'm sure you will find it.

Go to Tools/Add-ons/Extensions.
Is Adblock Plus listed there and is it enabled? Current version is 2.6

No not firefox,IE or chrome,look in add or delete programmes and see if media enhancer is there,if so remove it.

Within Adblock Plus - Filter Preferences have you ticked Easylist ? If not, you won't have any list of ads to be blocked.

I'm surprised that nobody seems to have suggested the most obvious cause of unwanted pop-up ads, which is MALWARE.

Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/free/
Points to note:
1. When installing, take care to deselect the option to install free trial of the 'PRO' version ;
2. When running it, use the 'Quick scan' option ;
3. Don't be surprised when that 'quick' scan takes over half an hour to finish ;
4. When it does so, click the button to view the results, ensure that there's a tick alongside everything listed and then click the button to delete what's been found.

That would have been my next suggestion if the OP had confirmed the O/S as being Windows of some kind.
