How do I increase the length of time it takes before XP drops to the black screensaver? I presume this will be a registry key edit.

There's no need to edit the registry.

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Power Options, Power Schemes.

Under "Turn off monitor after" you can choose between options ranging between 1 minute and never.
