Mcafee Security

My son downloaded McAfee onto my computer last night to help protect me from this scary virus the papers are writing about. However, this morning all the sites I like, especially this one, are taking ages to open and when they do finally open, it takes a while before I can scroll up and down. Is the McAfee searching everything in great depth before letting me open it?
