It fell out of my washing machine when I turned it over to clean the crud out of the sump hose.

put your make and model number into google and see if you can have a look at the spare parts list and then see if you can find that part ( should be with a number and name )

you will then know what it is

It's a screw-mounting lug of some sort or another and looks as though it has been spotwelded inside the casing somwhere but has come loose and your tipping it up has caused it to drop out. Unless the machine runs noisily or with any other problems I wouldn't worry as it's possible that it's an odd bit that got in there when the macine was built.

The photo doesn't show it very clearly but the lug is really quite distorted so I doubt it was caused by anything I did today. When I had turned the machine over, the drum housing did seem slightly 'over free' (it actually rested on the 'top') compared to another similar model we had so I think it could be missing an attachment. But the spin cycle isn't tremendously uncontrolled (even now) so I can't say I am all that worried.

Ehm, it's a Bosch Exxcel 1400 Express - WFO2865UK (it actually looks like WF0 on the back but I think that's just a German idiosyncrasy)
Drum sticker reads 17.12.2003 17:43:59, if you're into that sort of thing.

I've taken the top off and can't see anything missing - but it did sound as though it dropped from bottom to top yesterday.
