Basically you can take a photo of things (if you have a IPad or similar). It's generally easier to scan than print.
Switch computer on

Place document on printer and press scan

Your computer may ask you where you want the document to be saved (mine doesn't, it drops it into documents or downloads)

Compose your email and click the attach button, sometimes looks like a paperclip, this will open the documents folders, find your document annd away you go.

Very basic I know but I hope it helps :)
If its Epson, then there is a feature in the supplied Creativity Suite that does it for you - assuming you have an email program on the computer!

If its webmail, you need to do the option described by rockyraccoon
Switch computer on? Take that as read?
Why inksplotter, I'm using my iPad to type this and my computer is switched off.
The printer needs to have a scanning facility of course- not all of them do.
Don't forget to consider whether it's important or not to do this in colour!
If not an issue, then opt for Black & White (greyscale) as the file you are going to email will go that much quicker as it will be a smaller file size.
Without getting in too deep here and you can find the dpi of the document- if there are no important photographs included.....keep the dpi (resolution) on the lower side of 100dpi assuming it's not going to be printed out.
