Hi Elspeth, not sure what 'Google' you are using if you don't use Safari and you weren't aware of Chrome. Clearing the cache in Chrome is simply a matter of going into its settings (three little horizontal lines top right next to the address bar), scrolling to 'settings' then 'privacy' and taking the 'clear cache' option. Safari, theoretically, doesn't need this doing, or at least one isn't given the option, the settings for Safari are found in the main iPad settings under Safari and one is only given the option to clear history (which pages you have visited) or clear cookies and data (which would mean that you'd have to login to all your websites again). To check to see which apps are running is very simple, simply double click the home button and the screen shrinks to show miniature versions of the screens of the running apps, these can be scrolled from side to side, any apps which are you're running and don't need at that moment can be dismissed by swiping them upwards. Another thing you can do to reset memory use etc. is to get the device to do a reset reboot by holding the power and home buttons for at least 10 seconds, when you release them you should see the Apple logo and the device will restart, this doesn't cause any loss of data and leaves all apps etc. running so can be done without problem
