As a new Apple IPad user (still on L plates) I need an expert to help solve a little problem. My IPad came complete with Google but strangely Google has disappeared several times, leaving an empty screen when I touch the icon. My daughter doesn't know why this happens but has managed to re-install the Google app for me. But I need to know why this happens and and if I am doing something wrong to cause it? Can anyone help or should I go to the Apple shop?

Hi Elspeth, not sure what 'Google' you are using if you don't use Safari and you weren't aware of Chrome. Clearing the cache in Chrome is simply a matter of going into its settings (three little horizontal lines top right next to the address bar), scrolling to 'settings' then 'privacy' and taking the 'clear cache' option. When you reloaded the google app, did you remove the old one first?

Yes Milvus I did - it wouldn't load the app until the old one was removed.
Actually your iPad won't have come with Google, Apple's internet browser is Safari, however, Google Chrome is easily installed but in my experience has never disappeared from mine or failed to work properly. Are you remembering to clear the cache occasionally in Chrome and to check how many apps you have running at one time as this can have an adverse effect on how apps behave.

Thanks Fitzer - that sounds too technical for me. I don't use safari but I shall investigate that and chrome. I have got a lot to learn! More work to do I fear.
Safari, theoretically, doesn't need this doing, or at least one isn't given the option, the settings for Safari are found in the main iPad settings under Safari and one is only given the option to clear history (which pages you have visited) or clear cookies and data (which would mean that you'd have to login to all your websites again). To check to see which apps are running is very simple, simply double click the home button and the screen shrinks to show miniature versions of the screens of the running apps, these can be scrolled from side to side, any apps which are you're running and don't need at that moment can be dismissed by swiping them upwards. Another thing you can do to reset memory use etc. is to get the device to do a reset reboot by holding the power and home buttons for at least 10 seconds, when you release them you should see the Apple logo and the device will restart, this doesn't cause any loss of data and leaves all apps etc. running so can be done without problem

Thank you again Fitzer. I am going to follow your advice. Clearly I know very little about the working of this infernal machine and I wish I had an instruction manual! But I love it and will persevere.
Elspeth, if you access 'safari' by press the icon at the bottom of the home page in the top right hand corner are 3 icons one that looks like a book, a cloud and a + sign. Press the one that looks like a book and there should already be an 'Apple User Guide' towards the bottom of the list access it and you should be away. You do not need google or chrome to access the net 'safari' will do it for you.
Download the ipad_user_guide.pdf and you have the manual to look up what you need. Hope that helps.

This is the link to the manual if it is not already on your ipad. If you are looking at this on your ipad just press the link and follow the instructions
