new pc help needed

I'm just about to get a new pc. What is the best way to transfe data from the old one?
Is it better to burn a CD or get some sort of LAN? If the latter how do i start?

If you don't know how to create a network connection then the best option would be to burn a cd or 2.  You could always put the old hard drive into the new machine and transfer the data then remove it.

i think you can buy usb data transfer cables, which connect 2 pc's.  Not sure how simple they are to use or how much they cost though.
