Photographing Fireworks.

It is getting to that time of the year when there will be plenty of firework displays taking place. I am hoping to get out and try and get some photographs at one of our local events. I will be using a Canon 6d + 24-105 lens, tripod and a cable release. Any tips would be great. Thanks in advance.

Good tripod on a solid base. Camera set on fully manual (or if you want to cheat it may have a pre-set 'fireworks' scene mode), low f stop and shutter speed of 5 secs or medium f stop and 15 seconds. Cable release (or if the 6d has wi-fi get the app and use that as a shutter release). i.e. experiment. It's good to get some foreground in like a church spire / tree for a bit of perspective.

In addition to Zacs. Try and get there early and get a good position, preferably away from crowds. Start taking photographs straight away as the smoke soon builds up and photos get hazy and if possible up wind as you don't want the smoke drifting towards you.

and....
Make sure the heat from the bonfire isn't drifting across your field of view as it will obviously blur the shots.
