I have a relatively new HP laptop windows 8.1 on which I use chrome as my web-browser (mainly because of that which shall not be named is a simple add-on)
turned lappy on this morning and went to chrome - it informed me the shortcut no longer worked as the program had been changed/moved (not quite sure which one - I hadn't had coffee)
so I went to my programs and it was there, but couldn't open it so I uninstalled it. Went onto IE to re-install chrome and it keeps failing - telling me I might already have it open (I don't - I've uninstalled it)
the extent of my knowledge is that I've tried (in the time honoured fashion) turning lappy off and on again, but no joy. What now?

I have been having problems with Chrome this last week.
I even had to reinstall it it.
Could not get it to open at all, then when it did ,was just a whole blank window and then it froze.
Was OK this morning though.

I wonder what is going on???
Chrome can 'run in the background', so you might have uninstalled it (or at least thought that you'd uninstalled it) while it was still running.

Open your Task Manger (via right-clicking on the Task Bar at the foot of your screen) and select he Processes tab. If 'chrome.exe' is listed, it's still running. If so, click on it to highlight it and then select 'End process'. Then try uninstalling Chrome again, before restarting your computer and reinstalling.

Alternatively, remember that 'a certain extension' also works with Firefox ;-)
