Unworking email

I am currently unable to access my email (Outlook Express 5.) Clicking on the icon brings forth the small grey error box informing me that an illegal operatin has been attempted.

The old standby of switching off and back on doesn't alter anything.

Any ideas?

I was reading email on Tuesday and my computer crashed. Since then I have had no email but the rest of my computer seems to be working fine.
