If she's in Spain with her UK mobile and you text her using your UK mobile, neither of you will incur any extra charges.
If she texts you, you'll pay nothing to receive the text, but she'll pay extra to send it.
If you ring her, it'll cost you no more than the usual rate, but she'll pay extra to receive the call.
If she rings you, you'll pay nothing to receive the call, but she'll pay extra to ring you.
All of the above are the usual rules with all of the major providers :)

Sandy, if you think about it if you had to know what country a person was in, and had to change the phone number before you could send them a text (or call them), it would make using mobiles around Europe unusable.

When you take a mobile to a foreign country the phone usually automatically connects to a local supplier and so the UK based phone company knows where the phone is.

You send a text as normal and the text finds its way there.

Quite clever really.
