Weak Internet Signal

My son has just got a new desktop, it was built to his personal spec. The internet connection is very weak although everything else in the house is picking it up fine, the router is only 12 feet away from the computer.

Windows 8.

Any ideas anyone?

Is it his first computer and if not was the last one suffering the same problem?
If it is not his first try resetting the router by sticking a pin in the back whilst it is off and then switch it on still with the pin in and take it out after a few seconds

No it's not his first computer and yes the old one was fine.

The router doesn't have anywhere to stick a pin, just an on/off button which we've tried.

Have you googled the router to see how to reset it ?

Thanks espookid, we've found a solution, there's a little antennae that has to be screwed into the back of the computer, everything is running at warp speed now.

Indeed Methyl, I did stupidly presume he had done, but no, why would he.

To be fair though, none of us had ever come across these antenna things before.
