I think sometimes it is deliberate, other times it is almost subconscious.
I am the first born - My Mother was Vera, she named me Lynne and was mystified why anyone made the connection that she had done it in honour of the singing forces sweetheart.
Before I went Self-employed, I worked as a Security Officer for a large local Company. we had the job of booking in Daily Contractors, one of whom was always reluctant to give his full name which of course we knew, but as we needed to enter him in the book we always asked Mr Wayne King.

Friends of ours had an acquaintence in the US who name was Less, Richard Less, his with..... Ruth.... I always questioned this though until I met Dick... not bursting into a fit of laughter is my finest hour.. ;0)
We use a combination of first and middle initials and up to the first 5 letters of surnames at work as passwords,log ons/user names. Some that make me laugh EVERY day: cdwilli, vajina, how, ihayte, acomb (these names are printed on everything they do)
