I have recently purchased a new laptop. This is due to my up and coming start of university. The laptop as a wireless modem in it, but I am not quite sure how to connect to the internet. At my house I currently have broadband on my stand alone PC, Is there any way to be able to use this connection? With this you will have to take into account that I currently live in the Channel Islands and will be moving to Mainland UK soon. Cheers any help appreciated.

if you have broadband, you'll find that you probably connect your cable/ADSL modem to your pc with something that looks like a phone line, but a bit thicker. (RJ45 cable)

your laptop will come with a port to use that connection if you like, just unplug it from your PC and put into laptop. you may need to turn off your modem for a while though, in case it remembers what computer it's been plugged into.

if you want to use your laptop wirelessly, you'll have to buy a wireless router. these come in two forms: cable router and ADSL router. what you want depends on what broadband type you'll be getting at uni, if you want to use it wirelessly there.
