Who is your broadband provider?
Are you connecting via wifi or ethernet?
Where do you live? Is there high speed broadband such as Virgin cable available in your area?
The only way really is to go fibre. Line speed depends largely on the distance from your home to the exchange.

thank you hc4361 and bhg481 for your prompt replies....BT is my provider and is trying its best to sell me Infinity....years ago, cable was installed in the local area, but they ignored my house as it was at the bottom of a long drive!
Since then, the telephone communications have not been good..maybe fibre is the way forward.
Thank you very much indeed.
Just to put it in perspective I get 2.5. I find it brilliantly fast in comparison to the 0.4 I was getting a couple of years ago. It does all depend on where you live, what's available in your area and what you pay for. Have you asked any neighbours what they're getting?

We are with BT, we used to get about 12 D/load and 3 U/load
Changed to Infinity in Aug, now it's 40+ D/load and 10-12 U/load.
If BT is your supplier no other provider can exceed that speed - they all use BT lines. Infinity is the only way unless Virgin is prepared to install cable for you.
I am with Virgin cable and get 100mbps.

Wonderful !
I'm with Virgin and get over 150mbps
I can't comprehend what a speed like that would be like. You must answer all your own questions before you've asked them.
BT keeps trying to get me to change to Infinity. They seem to have stopped phoning, or maybe it's because I no longer deal with folk whose number I do not see & recognise, but the still post junk mail with the "you must pay by DD" deal killer in the small print on it. I wish they'd have the sense to stop. If I was willing to do anything so daft I'd not still be with them !
hc: 18.75 MBps is impressive. I get around 3MBps. Are you using a satellite?
No, Dizmo, Virgin cable broadband.
That's like a GB a minute - I'm impressed.
My virginmedia promises 100 mbs - I'm getting 65 d/load and 3 u/load at the moment.
Mosaic, ethernet or wifi?
On wifi at present Hc - it's faster on the desktop but it Vista and irritates me sh1tless
