Computer Soooo Slow!

All my computers are running sooo slow and freezing as well,that is my desktop.laptop and netbook....I began to think it is my internet but logic tells me it cannot be as it is the hardware we are speaking of here.
My grandson is in the process of cleaning my laptop,so we shall see if that is the reason...I imagine the desktop PC must be verrry dirty but my netbook is rarely used...only when I go on holidays.
Any suggestions coming from you clever tech minded people...pleeease.

kloofnek....21 doesn't sound so bad ! I have BT Infinity 1 and I get 31-33Mb/s on a regular basis. But its the fact that all three of your devices are experiencing the same slowness that is puzzling. If your PC has a modern processor, and your download speed is 21 Mb/s, than this is a real puzzle !
Although I get a good broadband speed, the Modem sometimes reboots and causes the occasional problem, but this is a BT line interruption, and soon gets back to normal. Let us know how you are getting on with this !

Your internet connection is quite poor. I'm on the same package as you and my figures are 59.87 d/l and 13.69 upload.
Are all the devices connecting by Wi Fi?
Have you signed into account at Virgin and checked your 'service' status, there may be problems outside?
At the very least, switch off the router wait 30 seconds and switch back on.

What is he cleaning it with ? I hear Ajax and a Brillo pad is quite good.
The normal state of computers is unbearably slow. If you run things like defrag in the background that will slow things too.
Is it just the Internet speed or are other things such as opening windows, an issue ?
Whilst you may be expecting higher Internet speeds I find it difficult to believe you would notice 21.6Mb/s an issue unless you were streaming down a lot of data.
Check in task manager what is going on. That might give a clue.

Unplug your router from the mains, leave it for 5 minutes to settle down, then plug it in again.
I have to do this with my virgin router every now and again and often afterwards it is fine.
p.s. Do you have a password on your wi fi connection?
If not one of your neighbours could be downloading hundreds of films on your broadband using wi fi, which would slow it down a lot.

I am somewhat lost by the fact that you are having problems on three items.
The view I am taking at this stage is that you either have a faulty Router or there is a problem with Virgin in your area. Try checking Virgin :-

Thank you all for replies and advice Will try to give the answers to all your questions.
Do not have an Ethernet cable,Virgin took it away when they relocated my tv and Tivo Box last year to other side of lounge,They gave me the latest router which is plugged into back of Tivo.All the pc`s are WiFi.Yes my broadband is password protected.Also we have to switch router off from time to time.Hans,followed your link and there is no problems with my broadband connection etc.Many thanks for that.
I am now on my netbook which was playing up something terrible last night,it is rarely used (only on hols)but get it out from time to time to see if it is updated etc.This morning deframented it and it appears to be behaving somewhat better.
Am now awaiting to get my laptop back,grandson giving it a "dusting",he previously had speed problems with his and after having cleaned it out n,now works a treat...so fingers crossed,mine will be the same.
Intend to get my desktop done as well as that must be really stuffed up with dirt!!!!!

I don't think its a problem with your various devices, more a problem with the Wi Fi signal.
Try checking your router settings and making sure both 2G and 5G are enabled.
Defraging your disk doesn't really have an impact on Versions of Windows from 7 upwards. It used to be important at one time, but no longer, unless your are 'tight' for freespace on the HDD.
