I'm way behind in the mobile phone stakes. Had one for years but always a simple cheap job..until now, my Grandson has give his iPhone 4s today.

He was going to set it up for me this morning but I need to buy a micro nano sim..I think that's what he said.

He doesn't live local and works extremely long hours so maybe a week or two before I see him again.

If I'm clever enough I'd like to surprise him on setting it up myself....so the problem is..I am with Tesco at the mo. It suits my needs expense wise to would hope to stay with my present provider.

I want to stay on PAYG

Question 1..will this be possible?

Question 2.. if it is would I be able to keep my existing number.

If it is how do I do that with a new [to me] phone. Please...

xx

You can get your micro nano sim from tesco. Just check that you can keep the same number. All the other networks do that. Also though over the years PAYG has also moved on and you may be able to get a better deal by having a £10-£15 contact per month as your iPhone will also be able to access the Internet.
I pay £10 a month on a PAYG with an iPhone and get loads of free Internet, calls and messages.

Thank you sharrardk. Up until now I have avoided a contract type sim. On the system I have used, I buy a £10 credit and get £20 added for "free"..that can last me up to 2 months so last of the big spenders when it comes to mobile phones.

However I can see me accessing the internet from time to time so it may well be time to change.

Just been avoiding a monthly bill...thank you again.
I too am quite happy with my very old mobile, on PAYG. I spend about £20 a year.
If you are feeling brave you can buy a micro sim cutter or even cut it youself with scissors. I did it and it worked for me.
A micro sim and nano sim are different sizes, so be careful if you cut it yourself.
