I´ve had my packard bell, windows 7 starter 320gb hdd 1 gb memory computer for 18mnths now. Recently its been giving me problems, eg taking forever to start up, and to close down. plus its always crashing!! I´ve done a virus check, and found nothing.
thanks in advance
If you start it in safe mode do you get the same issues?
If you only have 1Gb ram memory, then that is very low to run Windows and everything else as well and may well be causing your issues. I'd consider 4Gb to be adequate for W7.
You need to check your start up menu to see what programs are starting automatically. Disable those you know you don't need to start working on boot up.
Your machine is underpowered. You can install another 1GB RAM cheaply. Check out the Crucial Memory site and use their system scanner for guidance.
blooming computers!! done a system restore yesterday, and everything seems more or less fine. only one problem, the keyboard plays up now and again, eg when typing something, if i dont keep an eye on what i´m typing, the cursor decides to type eleswhere.
hey @piggynose may be you need to boot your laptop. just format it an install upgraded version of OS. and i also recommended that you always put your laptop in table don;t use on bed. can i ask one question is heating problem also in your laptop?
If you have a lot of programs in your start up menu your machine will take a long time to start up and shut down. Not only that but you will be running programs you don't in that session which will slow the whole thing down.
By disabling programs from starting up automatically you will find your machine starts quicker and runs smoother
Some laptops have a button near to the touch-pad to toggle it on/off, some you hold down the Function key (Fn) and press one of the keys on the top row of the keyboard (has a symbol which, with a good imagination, looks like the touch-pad).
With windows 7 you can go to Control Panel > Mouse. Click the "Device settings" tab, choose the touch-pad and "disable".
