Strange that you Do Not have a 'portrait type' icon on the top right hand side of your outlook mail page, (As indicated by Mamyalynne's link).
Anyway being 'locked-in' to Outlook has been known by folk who use Internet Explorer. Are you using IE.?
I'll try to help but would need to know what Browser you are using and what Windows operating system.
Hans.

I think you need to try a further few steps and hope for a reasonable result.
1) Make sure your Firefox is up-to-date. It should be version 39.0
2) Clear your Cache, but Not Cookies.
3) Switch off everything. Wait 10 minutes and then re-boot.
4)Try again Outlook.
Incidentally, how do you enter Outlook.? Do you have an icon which you can click on your 'start-up' screen, or do you use some other method.?

An afterthought has occurred to me. Your E/mail account may have been attacked and now has a 'nastie' embedded in it. What Anti Virus programme do you have.? You might have an item of Malware which can be missed by AV, but could be identified by a scan with the free edition of Malwarebytes.
Whatever you do, Do Not purchase or even take a trial of Malwarebytes Premium Edition. Download the free edition's installation file and install from your 'Downloads' folder...then do a 'Threat Scan' which could take a half hour or more.
