I created two confidential documents 6 years ago which were password protected.
I want to open them now and can not remember the password(s) I used at . Any thoughts please as to how I can open these documents ?

Are they in word format?
The answer is temporarily download openoffice
https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html
once loaded bring up your documents individually and save into open office format (.odt) when you open those versions they will open ok - you may lose a little formatting but otherwise ok.

never had that issue - but then as soon as the jobs done i delete it - works for xls files also

What a load of ***. I have Open Office and MS Office on one of my machines, and Libre Office and MS Office on the other.
I too have both Microsoft Office and Open Office on the same machine and have done for at least 10 years.
