you could for an estimate at a local camera repair shop not a large store they just fleece you, i dropped my Fuji unfortunately even with it being metal the zoom was fully out and it bent it,stuck in that position for good so i did bin that
I think it may be done for pn. When I did the same thing the lens used to come out then go back in. When I took in to the camera shop they said uneconomical to repair. Save your memory card and transfer to a new camera. They are dirt cheap now, what with the progress in mob. phone cameras and the such like. A bummer I know, we get to love a camera after spending time to learn all its gizmos.

I did the same last year to one of my cameras and used.

They give you an estimate and the repair was good, cheaper than a new camera and as I like it and have learnt how to use it, I am happy.
Khandro had a quick look at your link and have saved the site in my favourites. I will have a look in more detail later. I still have my beloved canon and would love to have it back. (*_*)
I found a review for your camera from 2008 so assume it is a fairly old camera (it gives it a low score well).

It is also on 4x zoom which is quite low by todays standards so maybe time for a new one.

I have a Canon compact camera with 20x zoom that was not too expensive (it was an end of life deal so was reduced).

Cameras are replaced by companies every year or so and it possible to find deals on cameras that are end of life so look out for one.

Here is the review of your camera.

as it seems inevitable that i will be buying a 40 quid smartphone soon, buying another camera might be pointless. maybe one of you abers can tell me otherwise.
^^ It depends on what you like, smartphones are good for some situations but not others. One of my cameras is a 75 year old twin-lens Rolleiflex which I wouldn't part with for anything, a joy to use, and it works as well now as it did the day it was manufactured (with its original Carl Zeiss lenses) in Braunschweig.

Canon IXUS 275 HS Compact Digital Camera - 129 quid.
what do you reckon vhg?
looks like the best price anyway, and a decent camera too,but all depends what your using it for of course,
I suspect it is worth finding out if it can be fixed inexpensively.

A few years ago I had a camera break on me. Discovered it used 2 small bits of plastic in the case to hold the battery cover on. One breaks and the camera becomes useless ! I never did get around to checking if it was repairable; it's still upstairs. A web search did discover the brand no longer made cameras so getting advice on repair was unlikely. :-(

fender 62, i dont think i want to fix it, its never been all that great anyway.
might be time to replace it. i only bought because it was on offer, didnt research it. it replaced my previous camera which didnt have sound with the video.
piggynose; Your question was, was it //more expensive to repair than replace?//
I think the answer is no, but you now say // i dont think i want to fix it, its never been all that great anyway.//
So - there you go! Hmmm :0(
