Antivirus Or Not Antivirus ?
6 Answers
A message popped up on my screen to say that I no longer had Norton protection, since I had not paid. But I had paid - they took the money from my credit card only a month ago. I rang and told them so, and I was told to go onto "Live chat " which I did. But the person on the other end told me s/he had to take control of my computer for about half an hour to reinstall something. Is this fishy ?

From where did you get the telephone number to ring Norton.? Was it part of the 'pop-up'.?
How did you get onto the 'Live-Chat'.?
Did you give over Control of Computer.?
The reason for my asking questions is because I now have the feeling that you have been the victim of a Scam and someone is now in possession of lots of information taken from your computer. Information such as Passwords, Bank Account details, etc, etc.
Hans.

As I am so very deeply suspicious of everything on the Internet, not to say downright cynical, I did not allow a stranger with an unpronounceable name to get control of my machine. I seem to recall that I searched on a well-known search engine for Norton, and used the phone number given there for customer services.
And I am far too cynical to do my banking online. I am now turning to my son, who is really quite techie, for further advice.
