I still get messages inviting me to instal Windows 10 and I wonder if I'm the last person on the planet without it.

I have Windows 7 Professional and don't have any problems.

Looking ahead, would you advise me to go for 10 or stay as I am ?

Thanks.

You're not alone derek, there's at least two of us.

Win 7 works OK for me (I have two machines, one running home premium and one professional) I'm being tempted to upgrade the old one and see how it goes.
I get them as well. Asked my son about whether to download, but he said wait a while until any bugs have been fixed.
We then had a guy speaking at our U3A Meeting who said to beware of some of the messages as they are viruses!
I suggest waiting.
Make that four of us who, for the time being, are avoiding Windows 10 which is still subject to problems.

W10 is just fine. If your systems are able to run it do so. Time and Tide and all that.
I too get those messages but I am sticking with Windows 7. There have been too many bad things written about Windows 10.
I refuse to install W10 until every problem has been sorted out. Still waaaayyyy too many problems with it.
I am another member of the 'stick with Windows 7' club.

Cannot see any reason to change.
I've been using W10 since launch day without any problems at all. I much prefer it - it's a lot quicker
Windows 10 works fine fore me - professionally installed though. I had one small problem with a vhdmp.sys issue (legacy of 8.1 I bleieve) but that was well handled and that has been it. I gather the tech issues that 10 has is with accessories like tablets.
win10 has been ok for me fast,no probs since the down load and has just had the updated version downloaded, think people having problems is to do with the state of their comp not win10 itself, having said that win7 was excellent still have it on my other old standby comp
I have Windows 7 on a laptop but prefer my Desktop which is satisfactorily performing with Windows Vista Home Basic.

Buenchico made an appropriate statement in one of the threads to which Baldric has drawn our attentions........."You have one month from upgrading (or should that be 'downgrading'?) to Windows 10 to go back to your former operating system."

I found 7 OK but it was beginning to limp a bit, which I think is an issue with this machine as much as the OS. I tried 10 and while it performed well for about ten days it then 'encountered a fatal error'. I decided to end my relationship with microsoft then, and have been using Xubuntu on the same cranky laptop with no problems at all.
You can easily learn how to install an opensource OS like Xubuntu, and if you want to extend the useable life of an older laptop I'd recommend it.
I'm highly suspicious about the likely outcome of microsoft's push to the brave new online world of W10.
I initially installed W10 on my laptop and waited to see what effect it had.

I have now upgraded my desktop and both machines are working well, slightly faster than W7 Home premium. I only had one issue concerning drivers, but that was not Microsofts fault, rather a manufacturers fault in being a tad slow on releasing W10 drivers.

The only other issue I had was with the privacy settings as regards Windows updates, which I was able to modify.

However the choice is yours alone to take ☺☺☺

Thanks everyone.

I'm going to err on the side of caution. My Windows 7 is running fine for me, and as I've always followed the old adage, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it.' I'll stay with 7.

Smart move derekpara. You'll have until next July to make a final decision.

Microsoft has guaranteed that W10 will be free to W7 & W8.1 users for 12months from date of launch. Furthermore, it has even been suggested on some Internet sites that Microsoft might extend the 'knock-off' period, indefinitely.

I bought a computer with 8 and hated it.

I upgraded to 8.1 and it was an improvement.

Windows 10 was better again.

However all were so different from 7 and earlier that you feel like a beginner on computers again.

I recommend you stay with 7 if it does what you need and are happy with it.
