How Do I Get Rid Of An Old Email Address?

I have an old Yahoo address that I stopped using ages ago.Although I told all of my contacts, a few still send me stuff to that address and although I keep reminding them, it still keeps coming. How can I get rid of it so emails would be returned to sender? Many thanks.x

The simple way would be to delete the yahoo account.

But if important messages are coming into the account as well as other stuff, you could alter its settings so everything forwards into your new email address.
i've just done this with my virginmedia account which has gone from poor to intolerable since they 'updated'.

Sounds like a good idea Mosaic but I don't know how to alter the settings so emails go to my other address but will have a look.

Most email accounts will have perhaps a little cog shaped icon - try clicking on that - settings - forwarding
Something like that

Have looked at settings Mosaic but nothing jumps out at me how to do this. Perhaps someone can guide me through it.Didn't see anything that said forwarding.

Or you could set some form of 'out of office' message which tells people to try your new address

Have you found the cog in the far right hand corner when you have your inbox titles showing?
If so, then click on it, then choose the Help option.

Hello my old techno friend.:-) Have found settings but nothing there about forwarding emails. How found how to delete contacts but that would probably just send emails to the bin instead of the inbox. Back to the drawing board Baths xxx

I've just had a look, and if you're persistent in the Help option they eventually guide you to a "Terminating Your Yahoo Account", after they've told you they're heartbroken to see you go, blah blah....

I'm not sure whether your layout is different from mine but if press on the cog symbol and select Settings and then there is a Holiday Response option. Or you could use teh BLOCK ADDRESSES option within the Messenger option

Automatically forward emails with Yahoo Mail
Your incoming emails can be delivered to Yahoo Mail, another email account, or both.

When you enable mail forwarding it sends a copy of incoming email to another email address you define.

Enable or disable forwarding
Forwarding is disabled by default but can easily be turned on or off.

Enable forwarding
Mouse over the Settings menu icon Gear Icon | select Settings.
Click Accounts in the left pane.
Click on the Yahoo email account.
Select Forward.
Enter and verify the address you want to forward your email to and select:
Store and forward - Email is saved to your account and sent to the forwarding address.
Store and forward and mark as read - Email is saved to your account, marked as "Read," and sent to the forwarding address.
Click Save.
You'll see a pop-up window asking that you check the account of the forwarding email address you provided for a confirmation mail from Yahoo Member Services.

Click the link in the confirmation email you receive and follow the instructions to add your forwarding address to your current Yahoo Mail account.

Important: The address you want to forward your emails to must be added to your Yahoo Account before forwarding can be enabled.

Easiest way would be to go to your live account and select the option to import from your yahoo account
