I have only recently joined Facebook - I signed up because I wanted to join the history page for my childhood village and now do the whole 'friends' thing. Every time I look at it there are bloody awful pictures of suffering. Do some people spend all of their time looking up the most depressing pictures on the internet and posting them on their Facebook page? I have just looked at a friend`s post and it`s a picture of two hapless rabbits with their backs shaved, strung out on a table testing sunscreen. The other week she had a picture of a dog with it`s legs cut off. If people feel so strongly about animal cruelty, wouldnt they be better off lobbying for change instead of depressing everyone and preaching to the converted?

I know what you mean SJ but you have to take the good with the bad on FB. Usually it's pics of people's bloomin' dinner...and now we have 'repeats - people reposting stuff from one... two...or more years ago.

You need different friends.
My friends/family very rarely post such images, maybe the occasion link to a news story that may contain grief.

My page gets regular pics of family, children's antics, pets, cats (lots of cats) and of course breakfasts, dinners, drinks etc.
I unsubscribe from friends such as yours, one in particular who rants on, all day, everyday about Muslims and what a crappy life she has. She remains on my friends list but I don't see all her drivel.
I'm very selective on Face book who I accept as Friends ect... family friends only on my account, in fact only two people I've never actually met in person are two trustworthy ABers. Whome I'd known as 'Cyber-friends' on here for years.

She`s actually one of my best friends but she has moved to the country and has become all ethical - always posting stuff from pressure groups. The bunnies picture was about buying products which have been tested on animals which is ironic because she is a right hypochondriac and has probably taken more drugs that have been tested on animals than I have had hot dinners. I guess she has nothing better to do.
U can unfollow things like that xx
Unfriend people like that. You do not HAVE to see that stuff. No one on my friends list post stuff like that. Remember you do not need to accept every person who requests it. When you get a request check out the person FB page first to see what they post.
You don't have to unfriend, just unfollow.
You can keep the friend, but block the web page from showing the pictures. Possibly a cross at the top right, or stop seeing what certain people post, but keep them as friends.
You can unfollow posts rather than unfriend people. I felt compelled to do this with a friend that posts about there dog day in day out, I think I know it's movements (including bowel) better than the owner.

The absolute worst for sharing and posting complete drivel is MrAC. I have tried to have a reasonable conversation with him about his unnecessary, outdated ideas in the form of his posts/pictures on his wall, but he will not listen. He still doesn't understand facebook and think he is 'sharing' stuff to himself. I try not to come down to hard because he has come a long way in the few years since having his laptop. I have learnt to ignore his posts, as I'm sure his FB friends do, too
If you hover over the top right corner of a post, you'll find some options appear, including for example 'hide posts like this' or 'hide all posts from X'. Then you don't get bombarded. I had to do this with a relative who is running one of those MLM businesses selling slimming products.

Ironically, she is the person who persuaded me to do the 'friends' part of Facebook because she said it would be a great way to keep in touch with what each other is doing. I don`t follow her though. I don`t follow anyone. The first thing I do when I get a new friend is unfollow them. But Facebook now has a feature on the left of the page (where your friends are) which says that they have a new post. So I thought, I`d just have a look expecting her to have posted a picture of her place at Christmas or a view from the area that she is still exploring and I get the bunny picture. Maybe she should stick up a warning ie "Distressing picture" or something.
If I were you I'd definitely be choosing my friends more carefully...:(
